I took this picture while we were sitting at the edge of a field beside the M40 after my first ever car crash. Cars really aren't very robust, are they? We weren't going fast at all when we ran into the back of a people carrier that had stopped in the middle of the motorway (I didn't quite find out why it had stopped, as I kept well clear of all the subsequent roadside negotiations and so on), but the car ended up in a terrible state, with a crumped-in bonnet and airbags hanging out all over the place, and we had to wait for a garage to send a truck to pick us up. It was a beautiful evening, though, so the wait was much more enjoyable than sitting in a car on a motorway would have been. And the guy from the garage, when he eventually showed up, told us all about his deep love of jellied eels, which he prepares in his own bathtub.
